About KARACATURES!
KARACATURES is headed by Kara Wald, a caricature artist who has been doing caricatures professionally for over 18 years.
Kara received formal training in art at an early age from family and various community and school classes. She was especially interested in figures and portrait drawing. Kara studied art and graphic design in college in the West and graduated in 1988. She moved to the Washington DC metro area after graduating. She discovered caricatures when she saw a woman doing it in a mall in the DC area in 1990. She saw her drawings and thought, people love it and I can do that! She was inspired to learn how to draw live caricatures by copying other artists work and drawing caricatures at Ocean City, Delaware one summer She has been drawing professionally at various parties, conventions, and picnics ever since then.. Kara loves the challenge of drawing quickly and capturing people’s personalities in only a few lines. She enjoys entertaining by making people laugh and enjoy themselves at a party. Kara's goals are to continue developing an individual style of caricature for herself and increase her knowledge of cartooning.
Additionally, Kara paints with oils and acrylics, usually figures, but also still life. She also sculpts figures and abstracts and has designed websites and has done graphic design in Washington DC and working in print, and then teaching herself HTML from a book at the beginning of the Internet, when a link and a picture were big news. She now uses Flash and interactive languages to build her websites.
Her work is unique for its painterly style of cartooning. She approaches caricatures as a painting, using a brush for her lines and her knowledge of painting for color and composition.
She also hires other talented artists to work with her who are experienced and dependable.
